The Driverless Future Competition. Runner-up, June 2017

Hub311 is a hybrid AV transit system and policy proposal to shorten travel gaps and improve access to resources and real-time information for the underserved population of New York City. We propose the placement of Hub311 station to provide an immediate actionable intervention for accessibility deserts within the urban landscape.

The Hub stations are placed as part of a new transit system. The fleet will provide the missing piece of transit between accessibility deserts and existing bus, subway and train stations - improving connectivity within the neighborhoods and creating a more active and accessible environment. The Hub311 design plans for the future. Placed on five on-street parking spots it blends into the existing sidewalk while maintaining a clear flow of traffic on existing roads.  Building on existing technology like LinkNYC, the Hub adds a transit stop for NYC AV fleets and a digital and physical interface that provides access to information and community resources.

Hub311 is a public amenity designed to preserve affordable neighborhoods by providing equal access. While, a car-free city is a long way to go, for now, we can look forward to an oasis of accessibility.
